Be Wary of Small Ideas that can have Big (negative) Impacts
I read a magazine article on an airplane a few months ago that said the key to long drives was starting your weight on your rear foot and shifting it to the front foot during your swing. Perhaps good advice, but a small thought can filter through to all your shots. I was golfing with a golf pro friend of mine a couple of days ago, Jason. He asked if I minded some input, we were just playing for fun. I said “of course”, I always want feedback and input. Taking it to heart and using it is another story. He told me I was swaying from back to front on all my shots, even my putts, which would cause inconsistency.
It’s a weight shift, not a weight slide.
Here’s an article on the difference between weight shift and “sliding” which I apparently was doing, even for putts!
All the analysis of your game, practice, and study by yourself can get you far, but there are points when you need a pro to evaluate your swing and see if something you never intended to do has crept into your swing. Feedback from a professional can be crucial to your success.
